The Third Place Blog: About our philosophy, books and TED
The essence of our philosophy is this:
- You don’t have to live your life the way other people expect;
- There is usually more than one way to accomplish something;
- You can change the world by achieving personal goals while helping others at the same time;
- The work you do should be both fun and meaningful;
- If you don’t decide for yourself what you want to get out of life, someone else will end up deciding for you.
Based on that – here are lists of books, videos and TED talks.

The Third Place
Have you guys read any good books about couples going into business together? I feel like that must create a really unique and potentially fruitful business dynamic, but it probably has some drawbacks as well. Has this ever been a factor in your research?
That’s a great point Phoebe. Our relationship makes the start up process run pretty smoothly. It definitely helps to start a business you’re passionate about with someone you love and trust! We’ll have to check out some books on the topic. Sounds like an interesting read.
I’m with Phoebe — a business with your partner is probably rewarding but also stressful! Hope you guys are enjoying it. There are two TV shows — Shark Tank and Restaurant Start-Up, that show the kinds of hard questions and choices that entrepreneurs need to be ready for when they’re pitching their start-ups to investors. As dedicated as you two are, I’m sure you would like them!
They sound like great shows Sam. Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll have to check them out!
